Fall 2022 | One of My First “I Am a Photographer” Moments

I’ve photographed the Krause family every year since this first session. Back then, it was just the parents, their kids, two in-laws, and two grandkids. Their family has steadily grown since, and it’s such a joy to watch.
There’s also a special connection here—my husband grew up with the Krause's in the same church. Wes was even the best man at our wedding! These days, we all attend different churches and don’t see each other as often, so photographing them feels even more meaningful.
This particular session was full of little pivots—including arriving to find my planned photo spot under construction. But the Krause's are easygoing and up for anything, which makes my job such a joy.
One of my favorite parts of the day? Lynne (the mom) took a behind-the-scenes video of me working. It was the first time I’d ever seen myself in action. Watching it back, I could see the growth in how I worked with families, directed poses, and kept the energy going.
It was another one of those pivotal moments where I could honestly say—without feeling like an imposter—“I am a photographer.”
